Our Pre-Intermediate Classes.

For students with experience in the dance style, but still need to work on mastering their foundations. Students must have a basic understanding of the steps and terminology, with the ability to execute them with some degree of coordination and rhythm.

  • Acro class combines acrobatic movements with dance techniques. Dancers will learn a series of tumbling and partnering skills. Acro emphasises strength, flexibility, and balance.

  • Ballet is often used as a foundation for other dance genres and is a style we recommend starting with. In Ballet class, dancers will work both on and off syllabus and focus on technique, musicality, and creativity through a series of exercises at the barre, in the centre and through choreography.

    IDTA, RAD and RBS examinations are optional.

  • Commercial class focuses on the latest trends and styles in street dance. Dancers will learn high-energy routines that incorporate elements of Hip-Hop, House, and Jazz Funk, often to popular music.

    IDTA examinations are optional.

  • Contemporary dance class emphasises fluidity, emotional expression, and versatility. Dancers will learn a variety of movements and combinations, often incorporating floor work and improvisation. Contemporary is a modern dance style that combines elements of Ballet and Jazz, with fundamentals and techniques from dance artists such as Martha Graham.

    IDTA examinations are optional. Rambert grades now available.

  • In drama class, students will learn the fundamentals of acting, including character development, improvisation, and script analysis. Students may also work on scene study, monologues, and audition techniques, as well as exploring a variety of theatre styles and genres.

  • Jazz class focuses on style, rhythm, and performance. Dancers will learn various combinations and routines that incorporate technical work such as isolations, turns, and jumps. Jazz dance often incorporates elements of ballet and other styles and is frequently seen in musical theatre productions.

    IDTA examinations are optional.

  • In musical theatre class, dancers will learn routines that incorporate Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Singing and Drama. Within this class, each year we will work on a production that will be showcased at the Customs House Theatre in South Shields.

  • Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each ballet exercise. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition. PBT focuses on core strength, weight placement and alignment of the body.

  • In our singing one-to-ones, students will focus on developing their vocal technique, range, and control. Students may work on breathing exercises, scales, and vocal exercises, as well as learning songs from a variety of genres.

  • In stretch and conditioning class, dancers will work on improving their flexibility, strength, and stamina through exercises, stretches and combinations. The class is often used as a supplement to other dance styles to help prevent injuries and improve performance.

  • Tap class emphasises rhythm and timing through percussive footwork. Dancers will learn, both on and off syllabus, a series of steps and combinations, often to music that includes syncopated rhythms.
